Handwriting Services

REMEDIATION/ENRICHMENT

Children use handwriting daily in school. It is one of the most common forms of communication. Some children can easily gain these skills without difficulty. For other students the instruction in handwriting provided at school is just not enough. Even the best teacher's students may need some tutoring, and handwriting is no different. Handwriting services are for children who are already writing. The focus of these services is specifically letter formation and legibility. For more intensive needs, including motor skills, an occupational therapy evaluation and services are recommended.

SIGNS OF HANDWRITING DIFFICULTIES

-Difficulty forming letters from memory

-Letter reversals

-Letter sizing

-Starting from wrong start point

-Using incorrect sequence of strokes

-Difficulty with spacing

HANDWRITING ASSESSMENT *

As with any therapy, an assessment is done to determine the areas of need. From the assessment you will be given a list of handwriting issues and recommendations, as well as, the plan to remediate the challenges. During this session, the student will begin to work on an area of need in preparation for subsequent sessions.
*Required for individual sessions/optional for group class.
50 minutes $135

HANDWRITING SESSIONS

Following an assessment, 30 minute sessions are provided on at least a weekly basis. Each session, will focus on the previously learned material and once mastered, new material will be introduced. On average a student needs 4-6 sessions to remediate areas of challenge. Some students need less, some more, each session is specifically designed for that student. As with anything success is quicker with at home practice.
